Domestic partner registration and marriage both involve a host of rights and responsibilities, and it’s critical that you be informed about the consequences before making the decision to marry or register. Emily can provide that information and help you make decisions about what will best serve your family’s needs.
If you’re unsure about whether you want to register as California domestic partners or leave the state to marry legally, Emily can meet with one or both partners to discuss your particular situation, provide you with resources, and help you come to a decision.
Before registering as California domestic partners or getting married elsewhere, some couples agree to establish terms for their relationship that may differ from the legal rules that would otherwise apply. They set out these terms in a prenuptial or pre-registration agreement.
Preparation of Preregistration Agreement
Emily can work with one partner to prepare or review a prenuptial or pre-registration agreement, or with both partners together to draft an agreement that will then be reviewed by each partner’s independent attorney.
Fees for Domestic Partnership Services: $375 per hour for consultation time; mixed flat and hourly fee for some pre-registration agreements.
